The second week of July saw 1000’s of Exeter University students, and their friends and family, gather up to Streatham Campus to attend their Graduations. During the week, EUJO small band were stationed up at the South Balcony in the Forum ready to play one of three 1.5 hr sessions, as the new-graduates flowed out of the Great hall and into the Forum for photos, mingling and a drinks reception.
Over the week EUJO small band played roughly 22 hours of Jazz for the new graduates. The line-up changed several times over the week to include both Male and Female Singers, Trombone, Tenor and Alto Saxes as well as trumpet and even congas! Too, the band made an effort to ensure the repertoire varied as much as possible across the week ranging from Dizzie Gillespie inspired versions of “Night in Tunisiaâ€, to Frank Sinatra hits like “That’s life†and even stretching as far as Rebirth Brass Band’s New Orleans inspired “I feel like funking it upâ€.
